Climb Newcastle News: This October: Climb Newcastle is 4

This month, October 26th to be precise Climb Newcastle will be four years old. To celebrate we will be hosting a number of events throughout the day...

  • 12-9pm: CN is 4! Fun Competition
30 problems to try from really easy to really hard - come down any time between midday and 9pm to try the problems and get your scorecard in for a big raffle later in the day.

  • 12-9pm: The Byker Groove Challenge
Every year despite getting less and less flexible, Chris pulls out all the stops to set one crazy groove problem and sticks a 50 note at the top! Check out last year's piece of work here.

  • 12-10pm: Wear it Pink
As part of our birthday celebrations we are raising money for our charity of choice, Wear it Pink, supporting breast cancer research - we're putting on a number of events as you can see at no extra cost so be a star and stick 2 in the jars we'll have at reception. And don't forget to wear pink!

  • 4-7pm: Free Massage from Shiatsu Works
James from Shiatsu Works will be offering free 10/15 minute tasters - an avid climber and very popular in the climbing community, James uses his personal experience to tailor treatments to the needs of climbers. More details on Shiatsu Works here.

  • 7-8pm: Birthday Buffet
It ain't no party without food and cake - we'll have a spread ready for you at 7pm!

  • 7:30-9:30pm: Film Night & Guest Speakers
We've got two special guest speakers:

    Who? by Steve Blake
Whether you know it or not, Steve Blake has had a huge influence on climbing at our local crags that spans nearly 40 years. From ground-breaking first ascents in the 70s like Hitchkikers Guide to the Galaxy and Poseidon Adventure, to discovering new crags and boulders in the 21st century, we are thrilled to have Steve tell his story (and hopefully some secrets) at our birthday event.

Two Decades of Abuse by Paul Carruthers
Paul Carruthers has emerged into the limelight over the past few years as one of the strongest young climbers around. His recent repeat of Malcolm Smith's Working Class Sit Start (8b) is just the latest in an impressive ticklist of problems both at home and away. Paul is about to embark on a huge road-trip but before he does he's going to open up his phenomenal video playlist as our late evening speaker.

  • 9:30pm: Raffle time
We'll be raffling a big box of prizes out with all scorecards handed in from the competition earlier in the day entered.
