Climb Newcastle News: Junior Competition Day 1
Day 1 of our annual North East Junior and Inter-School climbing competition was a blinder with some stunning scores and strong performances from several schools and individuals.
There were strong team performances from local Heaton School Hotspur Primary (defending champions of the under 9 category) across the Under 9 and Under 12 categories, and from St Benet's Primary making their way from County Durham.
2011 Under 16 champions Newcastle Royal Grammar School also brought a team down, many of whom are regulars at Climb Newcastle, and they will no doubt be there or there abouts come the end of the week.
Of the outstanding individuals turning out today, Sid Graham representing Kings School Tynemouth put in an exceptional score flashing 27 problems. Only the crux roof eluded Will Chamberlain who put in an excellent score of 284. But stealing the show today was 16 year old Jonah Vinsome of RGS Newcastle (left) who was oh so close to a full score dispatching with all 30 problems. And Jonah topped off a good day's work by taking a share of the top spot in the Summer Boulder Ladder. With 6 days still to go and many yet to compete, including our talented junior academy at the weekend, the junior competition is hotting up!
The circuit, in pink holds (grade range font 3 to 7a+), is also a great one for our regular customers - even Andy Porter (right) was loving it!
