About Us
ClimbNewcastle are a trio of experienced Newcastle based climbers with one common goal...to bring you a world class bouldering facility.
Andy Earl requires little introduction.
One of the most successful British climbers on both rock and
plastic, Andy was British Bouldering Champion for 3 consecutive years
from 2003-06 and competed for Great Britain at international level for
several years, culminating in winning the 2007 World Cup event in
La Reunion.
On rock Andy has made first ascents of routes up to E9,
many of which remain unrepeated, and climbed problems all over the world
up to 8b+.
A qualified sport scientist and highly respected
coach at regional and national level, Andrew has been British Climbing
Team coach for several years. More about Andy...
Chris Graham was a British Bouldering Team
member for five years, representing Great Britain at several international
events and reaching a top 20 international position and
a podium place at the 2003 British Championships in Edinburgh. Outdoors in
Northumberland Chris has left his mark with several significant first ascents
and repeats up to E8 and 8a+.
Chris is a PhD Student in the Mathematics department of Newcastle
University and has been a member of the University's Elite Athlete Squad,
promoting sporting excellence at Higher Education level. Chris also adds
coaching experience to the team as current coach to the North-East regional
junior team. More about Chris...
Darren Stevenson is the old man of the project, he has competed at national level and climbed at the highest levels world wide, onsighting up to E6 on grit, ground up of E7 and bouldered font 8a. Darren is a widely published photographer with front covers of the now defunct On the Edge and use in various manufacturers advertising campaigns. He now works offshore as a rope access team leader and NDT technician.
